Spring

Jingzhe(Insects Waken)

Jingzhe is the third one ofthe Chinese solar terms, usually on March 5th or 6th each year.

From that day on, temperature quickly rises;spring thunderbegins to appear and insects of various kinds awake from hibernation. In Chinese, the word Jingzhe itself means waking up insects that are hibernating underground.

Traditional Customs

The Chinese laboring people have attached great importance to this solar item since ancient times. Farmers often regard this day as the beginning ofspring ploughing and start to arrange all kinds of farm work. Just as the farmers saying goes, “After the insects awaking, do not stop spring ploughing”.
