Lidong - literally means the start of the spring - is the 19th solar term.
Lidong arrives on November 7 or November 8 each year. At this time of the year, some rivers in China start to freeze.
Traditional Customs and Food
Start of winter doesn’t simply imply that winter is coming. It also implies that people should store things for the winter and keep the cold out.
On that day, the ancient emperor would lead his officials to the northern suburbs and perform the ceremony of “welcoming the winter.” Nowadays people practice winter swimming and eat Jiaozi.
